Credit scores
are useful before applying
for a loan, lease or credit card. Get a free credit check from the credit
bureau. Your report will provide a credit rating and credit score. A credit
rating essentially determines the outcome of a loan, lease or credit card application
according to the level of risk. You can get a free credit check by writing a
request to the credit bureaus.
Include the following information:

Your full name

Your Social Insurance number

Current address and previous address within the last five years
-
Date of birth
-
Signature
-
Copies of two government issued identification (voter’s registration, driver’s license).
Your credit rating is evaluated on a scale which determines a sum total, or credit score. This system is based on your credit history, and allows businesses or credit granters to know your credit worth. There are usually three categories using, ‘high’, ‘middle’, or ‘low’ to give you a credit rating in these areas: loans, credit cards or short term debts.
Once you’ve received your free credit
check, you should verify all information. If any errors occur in your credit
history, credit rating or credit score, you need to resolve the issue immediately.
Notify the credit reporting agency that you disagree with the information on
file (in form of a statement) which will then be included in your credit report.
